Church to present musical on the birth of Jesus at Wisma MCA

What say you on the issue below?

CALVARY Church Kuala Lumpur is proud to present the musical “Jesus, The Christmas Story”.

This musical will be held at Wisma MCA, Jalan Ampang, at 8pm on Dec 23 and 5pm on Dec 24.

It promises to enrich the Christmas celebration among loved ones and friends and those who would like to experience something more than the usual shopping, eating and merry-making.

A Christmas must-have: Children acting out Nativity scene.

This musical revolves around the true meaning of Christmas, which is the birth of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is both a historical figure, written about in the Bible, as well as the living saviour to Christians around the world.

“This musical will be awesome!” said the church’s Christmas production and drama coordinators Kevin Atienza Chan andBalachandran Navaratnam.

“This year’s musical will be different from the past concert-based presentations.

“There will be more story-telling, enhanced by the usage of impressive LED screens and creative lightings. In addition, there will be certain technical innovations in our drama, music and dance capabilities. The rehearsals, that commenced months back, saw the production team practicing very diligently!”

The drama will be told by an inn-keeper and narrated by three angels, in a contemporary and humorous way, yet preserving the originality of the nativity story.

“Various genres of music and dances ranging from Ballads, Motown, Hip-Hop, Soul & Jazz, are fused to deliver a classical entertainment in a refreshing manner”, said Chan, who had been involved in the church music and creative arts ministry for several years.

The songs were adapted from the albums Colours of Christmasand Portraits of Christmas, that have a unique and eclectic mix of high-energy celebration songs, warm nostalgic moments and contemporary arrangements.

The song and style choices are compiled by well-known composer Phil Barfoot and arranged by veteran church music arranger Lari Goss.

To add to the meaningfulness of the celebration, the church’s senior pastor Reverend Tan Sri Prince Guneratnam will deliver hope-filled messages every night.

Interpretation in Cantonese and Bahasa Malaysia will be available.

“Admission to the musical is free! Come with your family and friends and enjoy a fun-filled experience.

On Christmas Day, at 10am, the church will be meeting at the same venue for a special Christmas celebration. A Children Joy Celebration for kids aged five-11 and nursery care for children aged eight months – four years will be held simultaneously. Admission for this special service is also free.
