Maya Karin registers marriage amid divorce talk

KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 — Actress Maya Karin, who recently denied divorcing British-born Steven David Shorthose, registered their marriage today at the Syariah court here.

However, it is widely speculated that the couple will divorce after the official registration of their marriage although Maya refused to divulge any details of the court proceedings.

The couple had married two years ago in Italy.

“The reason why Maya and her husband Muhammad Ali Abdullah (picture) came was to register her marriage in Syariah court,” said a court officer, using the Briton’s Muslim name.

Maya and her husband arrived separately and did not speak to each other but she was wearing her wedding ring.

Dressed in a floral baju kurung and a white tudung, she looked relaxed and was smiling to reporters even though she refused to comment. At one point, she obliged photographers outside the court by striking a pose.

Muhammad was dressed in a dark suit but was not wearing his wedding ring. When asked for a comment, he said: “No divorce, ask Maya.”
