THE lighted Christmas trees laden with decorations like big red bows and twinkling stars are adding to the Christmas cheer at Bangsar Village.
The shopping mall’s yearly tradition of the Holiday Light-Up was performed again recently where the dazzling display of lights were switched on slightly past 8pm by complex manager Tan Joon Kai.
But even before the lights were switched on, the merriment had already begun as guests sat on the pavement at the mall’s front entrance to watch the activities taking place.
Joining the crowd were children from Rumah Kanak-Kanak Angels, Kuala Lumpur, and Stepping Stones Home.
Staff of tenants wore white angel wings as they played with the children and shortly after, Tan presented two mock cheques to the two homes.
A cheque for RM10,000 was presented to Rumah Kanak-Kanak Angels. The home was represented by home administrator Belinda Chew while RM20,000 was presented to Stepping Stone Home in Taman Seputeh and this was received by its pastor and founder Reverend Johnson Rajahser.
Chew said the home housed 14 children aged between four and 12 years while Johnson said his home had 100 children aged between nine months and 22 years.
Following the cheque presentation, four students from Yamaha (The Music Shop) sang renditions of popular Christmas tunes followed by the lighting-up ceremony which received thunderous applause.
Tan said the mall was happy to share the Christmas joy with its customers and tenants.
“The year-end leading to Christmas and New Year are such exciting times and we wanted to add to the merry mood,” he said.
He added that the mall had been organising various activities throughout the year, especially related to art and craft and had placed donation boxes at the premises to raise funds for the homes.
“We have been working with Stepping Stones Home for their back-to-school programme every year since we started and began contributing to Rumah Kanak-Kanak Angels about three years ago,” he said.
Tan added that many of the decorations put up, like ornaments on the main tree outside, were hand-made from recycled materials from the mall’s own recycling bins.
Also used are energy-efficient LED lights and bulbs.
As Christmas snacks and refreshments were served, the choir from the St Francis Xavier church performed well-loved carols.
The decorations at Bangsar Village will be up until Dec 27.
