Toll rebates, rewards for loyal road users

KUALA LUMPUR: Highway concessionaire PLUS Expressways Bhd and electronic toll collection operator Touch 'n Go are giving back to Malaysians in a big way.

The two companies are rewarding highway users with good savings and loyalty programmes with their 300,000 limited edition cards in support of the 1Malaysia concept.

The cards - PlusMiles and 1Malaysia Touch 'n Go - were launched recently in support of the 1Malaysia idea as envisioned by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

The 150,000 limited edition 1Malaysia Touch 'n Go cards can be purchased at the toll collection operator's offices along the highways at RM10 each. Each card has a preloaded value of RM10.

PLUS Expressways managing director Noorizah Abdul Hamid said the PlusMiles card "RM1 for 1 Reward Point" and 1Malaysia Touch 'n Go complement each other.

"This is our way of giving back to the millions of Malaysians who have been loyal to us over the years."

"To them, we are saying thank you for using our highways.

"We hope that our highways will be a unifying factor for all Malaysians.

"Our rest areas have become meeting points for Malaysians of all races and very often you will see people of various races sitting down together for a meal or drink."

Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor said the cards supported the government's incentive programme announced by the prime minister last month.

The programme offers a 20 per cent discount on electronic toll payment system to users who pay toll more than 80 times a month.

"The incentives offered by Touch 'n Go, as well as PlusMiles are in support of 1Malaysia concept. It is our way to help Malaysians during these challenging times.

"The government is looking at reducing the people's burden by offering such incentives. Though the savings are small, it definitely has an impact on Malaysians," said Shaziman.

"Everybody has to work together to ride through these tough times."

According to Noorizah, the PlusMiles card is the first toll reward programme in Asia.

It offers benefits to users of all PLUS and Elite highways, including the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway, regardless of the amount and number of toll transactions.

In short, every user will be given a reward point for every ringgit spent on toll.

The first phase of the PlusMiles card programme was launched in December as part of PLUS' initiatives to support the government's call to reward highway users and to urge all drivers to use the electronic toll payment system.

In the first phase, PlusMiles cardholders who spend more than RM200 a month on PLUS and Elite highways will enjoy a five per cent toll rebate.

The PlusMiles card, launched by Shaziman recently, is available in two versions - normal and combi.

The "combi" card enables users to top-up their PlusMiles card through the Internet using a special contact reader.

"These cards can be used at our 26 merchant partners which include hotels, eateries, supermarkets and at selected parking services, major public transport systems in the Klang Valley and theme parks," said Shaziman.

"To date, some 63,000 of the 150,000 cards have been snapped up."

Besides PlusMiles card "RM1 for 1 Reward Point", the highway concessionaire has two other incentive programmes.

They are a 10 per cent discount to users paying toll between midnight and 7am and a further 20 per cent discount to users who use the highways during that time on selected days of the festive season.

Frequent toll user Sharini Ahmad said any savings on her 1Malaysia Touch 'n Go card would be helpful.

Businessman Low Kah Seng said PlusMiles made frequent road users feel appreciated.

"Now, at least there is something to look forward to," said Low.

"By simply making my every day toll payment at PLUS and Elite toll plazas, I will get rewarded with exclusive rebates and rewards."
