H1N1: 365 new cases confirmed, no deaths

KUALA LUMPUR: No deaths from influenza A (H1N1) was reported yesterday, with the death toll still at 71, but 365 people had tested positive for the virus, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican.

Forty-eight of the confirmed cases, including eight new patients, were in intensive care of whom 37 were from the high-risk group, including children, infants, new mothers, pregnant women and those with chronic diseases, asthma, heart ailments, and kidney and obesity problems.

Dr Ismail said 442 new patients with influenza-like illness (ILI) were admitted to hospitals and 353 cases were discharged until 9am.

"There are still 1,598 ILI patients being treated at 107 hospitals, including four private hospitals, nationwide, " he said in a statement.


He advised the public to reduce outdoor activities and wear masks, if they had to, to prevent infection.
