On a mission to educate Gaza kids

What say you on the issue below?

KUALA LUMPUR: Pen and paper are essential tools in a classroom. However, Gaza children consider them as luxury items.

Yayasan Salam Malaysia and The New Straits Times Press (M) Berhad aim to provide them with a better learning environment by raising funds through a photography exhibition entitled "A Hope for Gaza".

The team was busy preparing for the exhibition yesterday at the Balai Berita lobby.

About 50 photographs will be on display from Sept 1 to 25.

Yayasan Salam Malaysia chief operating officer Mohd Ghani Ibrahim said although there was no war in Gaza now, the people were still struggling to survive.

He believed that education was important and aimed to improve the teaching system there.

Together with education and language experts here, Yayasan Salam Malaysia has come up with an English module to teach primary students in Gaza.

"The funds will not just go towards books and learning tools. We will also be taking local trainers to help the teachers in Gaza."

The trainers and volunteers will be stationed in Gaza for a month, beginning Sept 15.

The team will be visiting three schools and reach out to more than 300 students.

Ghani hoped Malaysians would visit the exhibition and donate generously to the cause in the spirit of Ramadan.
