Mass circumcision for underprivileged kids

ALOR STAR: Some 100 children kicked off their school holidays by participating in a mass circumcision programme at SK Mergong, here, recently.
The Jom Masuk Jawi programme, organised by Perbadanan Nasional Bhd (PNS), was officiated by Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism deputy minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah.
The programme is part of PNS’s corporate social responsibility effort to help underprivileged children.
Bashah said the participants were mostly pupils from the Kota Setar district.
“The programme is aimed at fostering ties between the company and the community,” he said.
Also present were PNS managing director Datuk Syed Kamarulzaman Datuk Syed Zainol Khodki Shahabudin and Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry deputy secretary-general Datuk Azmi Lateh.
Mohd Adil Rahman Asgar, 12, from SK Seri Aman Diraja, said he was getting circumcised with his twin brother, Mohd Adin Rahim.
Another pupil, Fikri Faizal, 7, from SK Datuk Kunbar said he was excited about the new experience.
“I was scared but the feeling is gone after seeing the other children here with me.”
Meanwhile, Kamarulzaman said PNS also contributed RM30,000 to the school for upgrading works.
“Besides the circumcision programme, more than 20 PNS employees took part in a gotong-royong to clean up the school compund,” he said.
