GEORGE TOWN: A PLATFORM for children to showcase their talent in singing and dancing in a video submission competition known as Dugrostar received 1,500 entries. The competition was organised by Danone Dumex Malaysia.
Its marketing director, Monique Suryokusumo, said the competition was to inspire children to discover their full potential.
“We want to encourage children to express themselves from an early age and to give them a head start in learning skills,” she said at Queensbay Mall where the event was held recently.
She said children were judged based on their intelligence quotient, emotional intelligence courage, creativity and interaction with the judges.
Some 20 contestants aged 3 to 6 years old pitted their talent against one another in the tight competition.
Toh Li Yue, 4, emerged the winner with a forest-themed dance performance. She won RM5,000 and a trophy.
Coming in second, Tiffany Ang Yun Xuan, 5, won a RM3,000 prize for her rendition of Christina Perris’s A Thousand Years.
Putri Nur Damia Danisha Noor Hairy, 5, who is physically-challenged, sang a Malay song called Aku Yang Kau Sakiti, which won her the third place. Her mother was overjoyed to see her daughter receive her prize of RM1,000.
The competition was held in seven states before the finale here.
Some 6,000 children nationwide participated in the competition which began in August.
