Songs to light up the Xmas spirit

What say you on the issue below?

Singing their hearts out: Quah (in black) leading the choir members during their performance at the Peniel Christian Fellowship's Christmas Celebration in Seberang Jaya.

CHOIR members from the Peniel Christian Fellowship (PCF) ignited the Christmas spirit of everyone present through their rendition of carols during a show at their premises in Bandar Sunway Seberang Jaya, Seberang Prai.

The 22-strong group, dressed in angelic white robes, comprised church members aged between 11 and 60.

Led by choir mistress Joy Ong, the group walked through the crowd with lit candles in their hands towards the stage, as they sang the hymn 'Once in Royal David’s City' in a capella.

Next, they gave a heartwarming presentation of the carol 'Silent Night', which was sung in slightly different lyrics.

Professional soprano vocalist and trainer Michelle Quah, who coached the choir three months back, then joined the group in a powerful rendition of the classic 'Holy Night'.

Quah also played the piano as the group sang 'Angel’s Carol' before they broke into an endearing Mandarin number titled 'A Gift'.

Church elder Khor Kheng Loon then gave a message on the birth of Jesus Christ on the first Christmas.

“God gave us the gift of Jesus to show us the way back to him,” he said, adding that Christians should not overlook the real meaning of Christmas while being caught up in the hype of the festivity.

The choir ended its performance with 'I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day'.

The finale saw five members from the church’s Junior Youth Group spicing up the night with an upbeat version of 'We Wish You A Merry Christmas'.

The crowd clapped in sync to their performance, as the young ones rapped and hopped on stage.

Roaring start: Lion Of Judah performers presenting a drums performance during the opening act of the concert.

Earlier, the church’s Lion of Judah Drummers presented a thunderous opening item as they deftly struck the Chinese Season Drums in tandem.

PCF pastor Annie Ong said the event was aimed at getting the Christmas message across to the masses.

“We are not professional performers, but we try our best to present a meaningful show every Christmas,” she said.
