TUN Dr Mahathir Mohamad is synonymous with the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (Lima).
My Sakinah captain Datuk Mohamed Mustafa Ismail, who hosted the former premier on “an unofficial” fleet review of the ships at the Awana Porto Malai, said the former Prime Minister had accompanied the country’s top ministers on fleet reviews in 2007 and 2009 and although this year, there was no official fleet review, the 86-year-old was still keen on seeing the latest ships on display.
They departed from the Telaga Harbour on Wednesday afternoon.
“He is synonymous with Lima and is always beaming with pride whenever he is onboard looking at the many ships docked here.
“Until today, he never misses the event and always gives his full attention to it, usually staying until the event ends,” he said.
Dr Mahathir, accompanied by Tun Dr Siti Hasmah, went on an hour-long boat ride to view some of the warships and vessels that have come for the international exhibition.
He later toured a South Korean warship and was welcomed onboard by South Korean Ambassador to Malaysia Lee Yong-joon.
