HOSTS Subang Jaya Community Youth Football League (SJCYFL) entertained three other sides in the friendly encounters at their SMK USJ4 homeground in Subang Jaya during the year-end school holidays.
Three visiting teams — Nanyang primary school from Singapore, Shah Alam FC and Bangi Football Junior League (LBJB) were in action in three — Under-Eight, Under-10 and Under-12 matches.
The Singaporean visitors came with 26 players to compete in the Under-10 and Under-12 categories as part of their preparation for nest season’s inter-school campaign.
Although the budding footballers were in action on the pitch, the off- the-field action was equally interesting.
And the main attention was directed at the recruitment drive for the 12th season of the SJCYFL next year.
Even the usual afternoon downpour did not prevent the parents and guardians from turning up in full force to register their children for the upcoming league scheduled from February to May next year.
Subang Jaya Community Sports Club (SJCSC) president Farouk Hashim praised the new committee members comprising volunteers for their effort in spreading out the message for a flying start.
“It was respectable turnout of 130 registered participants from the opening registration session. We are impressed with their feat in getting past the half-way mark in attracting the maximum entries. Following an encouraging start, they are confident of wrapping up the exercise in December. Hopefully, they will receive overwhelming response in their next two sessions,” said Farouk, adding that the unrelenting rain delayed the recent friendly matches for almost 90 minutes.
Six teams each are expected to compete in four divisions — Junior (seven to eight years), Major (nine to 10 years), Senior (11 to 12 years) and Premier (13 to 14 years) - with more than 250 youngsters joining the fray.
There are only limited places for the Junior, Major and Senior while the Premier division needs a push in filling up the remaining slots.
The participation rates have remained the same for three — Junior, Major and Senior divisions.
The fee is RM195 which includes an annual membership of RM25 for the first child while the fees for second child and subsequent children from the same family will be RM170 and RM140 each respectively.
However, Farouk said they had increased the rates for the Premier division.
“We are introducing referees and linesmen to call the shots in the more competitive Premier division matches. We will need to increase the participation fees to engage the qualified match officials for the category,” he added.
In the Premier section, the fee is RM225 which includes a SJCYFL annual membership for the first child while the fees for second child and subsequent children from the same family will cost RM200 and RM170 each respectively.
The next registration session is on Dec 11 followed by another similar exercise on Jan 8.
They will be selecting the players and form teams with balanced playing strength with the assessment session on Jan 15.
