Fun at the trade fair

THE Pesta Pulau Pinang continues to draw multitudes as in previous years.

Thousands of people, adults and children alike, have been thronging the Pesta site in Sungai Nibong, Penang, to shop, dine, play games and enjoy the various performances since the fair started on Nov 28.

There are a total of 167 stalls at the venue, selling myriad products such as clothes, textiles, furniture, electrical appliances, toys and food stuff.

Loud screams and laughter can also be heard from the fun fair grounds where there are adventurous rides and an assortment of game booths for those who seek an adrenaline rush.

There is also a line-up of exciting performances, including those by local artistes.

One of the highlights is the Asia Pacific Entertainment and Acrobatic Troupe from Shanghai which will perform from Dec 17 to Dec 21.

There are also events like talent search competitions, a teh tarik competition and sports events like badminton, boxing and Muay Thai.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said there were some changes made to this year’s event in order for it to look “more happening”.

“It is brighter and more colourful this year,” he said in his welcome address at the opening ceremony on Sunday.

The ceremony was officiated by Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas. He was accompanied by his consort, Toh Puan Majimor Shariff.

Also present were Consul-General of Japan Tetsuro Kai, Royal Thai Consul-General Voradet Viravakin and officials from North Sumatera, Indonesia.

The fair is open daily from 6pm to 11.30pm until Jan 1. Tickets are RM3 for adults and RM1 for children aged below 12.
