Farewell to the Queen

What say you on the issue below?

STYLO president and chief executive officer Datuk Nancy Yeoh invited 60 guests to bid farewell to Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Nur Zahirah to mark the fifth and last year since she ascended the throne aged just 32.

As the 13th Raja Permaisuri Agong of Malaysia, Tuanku Nur Zahirah is known for her kindness and enthusiasm for charity, always supporting worthy causes.

It was a women-only event and I was there by default.

The only other male was Alexander Quay who was kissed by both the Queen and Sultanah Kalsom of Pahang! But this lucky son of Yeoh is only eight years old and will only have unassailable bragging rights when he grows up!

The 60 guests, handpicked and pre-approved by Istana Negara, were honoured to have their group photos taken with the Queen and also Sultanah Kalsom of Pahang.

Other VIPs were Tengku Puteri Seri Lela Wangsa Tengku Puteri Meriam and Tengku Seri Kemala Pahang Tengku Aishah, daughters of the Sultan of Pahang and Raja Datuk Seri Nazhatul Shima of Perak.

Hilton Kuala Lumpur rolled out a feast fit for a Queen and Sultanah and a fashion show was held after lunch. Featuring Stylo’s internationally-acclaimed ‘The 7 Deadly Sins’ from 150kg of recycled trash, the seven-outfit capsule show from its London and Mumbai showcase was so stunning even the Queen and Sultanah Kalsom took photographs.

In her speech, Yeoh said she was most humbled by the Queen’s tremendous support these past years, “Her Majesty launched Stylo in 2007 and continued to support us throughout her reign and even travelled to Singapore for our F1 debut to give our Malaysian designers a boost and the event greater significance”.

She added that the Queen’s royal seal of approval helped push Stylo, now a London-based fashion festival onto the international arena.

It will be staging ‘Stylolympics” featuring Malaysian fashion talents during the 2012 London Olympics next year.

After the show, designers Bill Keith and Lorenzo Peh, winner of Mercedes-Benz Emerging Designer award and hairstylist Winnie Loo were presented to the Queen.

After a group photo, a birthday cake was produced as Dec 7 marked the Queen’s 38th birthday.

The Queen shed a tear during Yeoh’s heartfelt speech and also when she cut the cake. Turning to Yeoh, the Queen said, “Thank you for what you just said, I really liked your speech. I will continue to support you from Terengganu”.

The Queen’s reign ends on Dec 13 and the 14th Permaisuri Agong will be Sultanah Hamimah Hamidun of Kedah.
