Enter the golden dragon

What say you on the issue below?

THE fifth creature of the Chinese zodiac, the legendary dragon is the mightiest of all the signs. It is regarded as a bearer of good fortune and master of authority.

With such a majestic presence, depictions of the dragon in art and literature are deeply rooted in Chinese culture. Once the exclusive symbol of the emperor and nobility, the dragon is now widely used for decorative purposes.

Paintings, carvings, sculptures and even embroidery portraying the dragon are treasured by the Chinese community because of the belief that the dragon brings good luck and fortune.

All set: GAB ambassadors all dressed in gold for the promotion.

With the launch of Guinness Anchor Bhd’s (GAB) ‘9 Grand Treasures for the Year of the Dragon’ Chinese New Year 2012 campaign, the company has become the first to present consumer promotion prizes featuring a dragon statue made of 1kg of pure gold.

Befitting its value as the pinnacle of the 9 Grand Treasures, it is encased in a specially-made glass case with a hand-sculpted wooden stand. Eight pieces of 100g Gold Dragon coins complete the 9 Grand Treasures, with each being housed in an exclusive gift box to usher in a prosperous Year of the Dragon.

The 1kg Golden Dragon Statue is estimated to be worth more than RM200,000. Together with other gold coins and cash prizes, the total Chinese New Year 2012 offering from GAB is worth more than RM3.3mil.

There is no surprise that public reaction towards the promotion has been good despite Chinese New Year being more than a month away. With the auspicious significance of the dragon and soaring gold prices, many were eager to try and get their hands on the statue.

“The golden dragon statue is such a work of art, and the fact that it is made using 1kg of pure gold adds to its charm for consumers. I believe that winning such a precious item will bring in more New Year luck for my family and I,” corporate executive Khoo Kah Heng said.

“Who wouldn’t want to win gold? It is such a highly sought after commodity nowadays. I really hope that I can win any of the nine treasures,” Hong Wee Juen said.

“The best part about winning these treasures is that I don’t have to do anything else to qualify. There are no forms to fill, nor slogans to complete. I just have to check the bottle caps,” Kuan Ee Tieng said.

The consumer promotion kicks off on Dec 15 and will continue until Feb 6 next year. Consumers can try their luck at winning the Golden Dragon statue and Gold Dragon coins by checking underneath the caps of any big bottle of Tiger, Guinness, Heineken or Anchor. They should also look out for the colour of the bottle cap liner as each colour represents one of the many prizes to be won during this campaign.

Those who purchase GAB beers from major hypermarkets also stand a chance to win by purchasing 26-can festive packs. Cans in these festive packs come with pull tabs that are specially coded, and all consumers have to do is to match these codes with one of the prizes available.
