Display of creative items at Christmas bazaar

WITH the Christmas spirit of giving, the third Christmas Bazaar organised by the French Women entrepreneurs in Malaysia was held with style on Dec 6.

The full-day event that took place at the Carcosa Seri Negara in Kuala Lumpur had many booths, not only from the French women entrepreneurs but also from other nationalities.

Apart from jewellery and accessory booths, there were also those selling clothes, shoes, paintings and other items.

Homely: Colourfully designed cushions for sale at one of the booths.

One of the eye-catching booths was one that offered multi-purpose, portable desks.

Commonly used for placing laptops, the Indonesian product was a fine gift for Christmas.

A first-time participant of the bazaar, Perrine Chedhomme, a French interior designer who promoted her outdoor tatami, the event was a good promotional ground.

Chedhomme, who has been in Malaysia for three years, said she decided to stay in Kuala Lumpur although her husband was based in Medan, Indonesia, as Kuala Lumpur was more developed and there was a market for her products.

“The Tatami range offers endless possibilities to get creative — use them to create a lounge area, as pool cushions, outdoor seating or even as beach cushions. There are more than 150 colours to choose from,” she said.

Contrasting works of art: Paintings are a big attraction during the Christmas Bazaar.

The event was in aid of the Madeleine Children’s Fund (MCF).

Organising committee member Armelle Stoltz said the last two bazaars in the previous years were done on a small scale, however with a bigger input, they managed to organise a big one this year.

She said apart from promoting French women entrepreneurs, they also hoped to create a synergy between the expats and the local community through the event.

“It’s a great event to know more Malaysians and learn about each other too, and we can also work together in future,” she said, adding that charity was a big part of the event.

Stoltz said Christmas was all about giving and sharing and it was a special time, especially for children.

“It’s a time of sharing for us and with that we choose our gifts with love and care, and that is why it is important to remember children, especially those who are sick during this season.

“Some of them are seeking treatment and bedridden, and probably can’t move much, and we’d like to help them with what we are raising from this event,” said Stoltz, adding that they hoped to raise about RM15,000 for the cause.

Vendors’ participation fee and the entrance fee for the event went to the cause, and donations from individual donors also went to the fund.

MCF consists of a group of volunteers from Mont Kiara International School and it raises funds to support Malaysian children diagnosed with cancer.
