FOND memories of the Alliance Francaise de Kuala Lumpur’s 50 years of activities and the experiences of the people it has touched through its various activities have been immortalised via its Golden Jubilee booklet that was launched recently.

At the event, its director Agnes Dovert said 50 years was a long time and showed the organisation’s deep commitment in creating mutual understanding between the local and French culture.

“We are the first cultural network in the world to have 1,040 societies in 136 countries. We are in a good position to promote foreign culture,” she said in her speech.

The organisation was first founded in 1961 and has grown into an established language and cultural centre. It has three centres, located in Lorong Gurney, Bangsar and Taylor’s University.

Among the highlights of the memento booklet is the organisation’s history, activities as well as some stories on the real-life experiences of some who have been touched by the organisation.

The French Embassy’s cultural and scientific counsellor Stephen Dovert, who was also present at the event, said the organisation had reached a matured age. “At 50 years old, the organisation has been through a lot and through many difficult periods. It has proven that it is able to adapt. This is not only a language centre but also a meeting point for two different cultures,” he said.

To celebrate the event, there was also a special performance by the Mondial Cabaret, featuring Christophe Glockner and Olivier Denizet, who hail from France.

The duo’s antics that consists of a unique combination of music, dance, comedy and even magic tricks kept guests amused and entertained.
