Additional allocations for repair works to prevent floods

LABIS: More than RM200,000 has been spent since 2008 to build a retention wall along the Labis River near Taman Labis Jaya to prevent erosion along the riverbanks.

Labis MP Chua Tee Yong said the Government spent an additional RM70,000 this year to maintain and repair part of the wall that had been damaged due to a flood early this year.

“The repair works were completed in September.

“The river was also deepened to help prevent flooding,” he said during a Deepavali celebration at Sri Athi Parasakthi temple in Taman Labis.

Chua said the temple used to face the danger of erosion as it was located by the river.

In another development, Chua said he also set aside RM35,000 allocation under his constituency to repair and level the earth roads in several rubber and oil palm plantations in Labis.

“The roads are upgraded for easier access and for the safety of the plantation workers and residents,” he said after a visit to Kebun MCA Labis recently.
