Sabah sticks to stand on Bangladeshi workers

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah will stick to its stand of not allowing the recruitment of workers from Bangladesh for all sectors of employment.
Sabah Resource and Information Technology Development Minister Datuk Siringan Gubat said the state government decided on this during its cabinet meeting here on Wednesday.
"Employers can hire foreign workers from countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar, Nepal and Cambodia for all sectors except the service sector, which is limited to workers from Indonesia and the Philippines," he said in a statement.
In June, Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said about 1.5 million workers from Bangladesh would be brought into Malaysia in phases over a three-year period.
He said this was to meet the demand of employers, especially from the plantation, construction, manufacturing and service sectors.
