Adjournment on case sought after Khir collapses

PETALING JAYA: The lawyer of Dr Mohd Khir Toyo (pix) will seek an adjournment on his appeal case after the former Selangor mentri besar collapsed.
“No decision can be made without the appellant’s (Dr Khir’s) presence,” said his counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah.
The Federal Court is scheduled to deliver its decision on an appeal filed by Dr Khir against his conviction and 12-month jail sentence after he was found guilty by the Shah Alam High Court on Dec 23, 2011 for knowingly purchasing two pieces of land and a bungalow in Shah Alam at a much lower price than its original value.
Dr Khir, 50, collapsed yesterday morning while he was jogging.
He was rushed to Selayang Hospital. Later, he was transferred to the National Heart Institute.
On May 30, 2013, the Court of Appeal rejected an appeal filed by Dr Khir and upheld his conviction in the corruption case relating to the land and bungalow purchase.
