Salleh Said: Government unbiased when blocking websites

KUALA LUMPUR: The Government does not practise double standards when blocking access to controversial websites which publish offensive content, says Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak (pic).
The Communications and Multimedia Minister said this when asked why Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's blog, chedet.cc, was not similarly blocked like Sarawak Report.
He said no complaints had been lodged against the former prime minister's blog, and that Dr Mahathir was merely making "general statements".
"Sarawak Report, as we have said, was blocked because they spread news with questionable content," he told reporters after officiating a function here, Tuesday.
He also said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) would act against any individual regardless who they are, based on existing laws and reports made.
Dr Mahathir has been a vocal critic of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's administration and regularly posts his views on his blog.
Sarawak Report had its access blocked by MCMC on July 19 for publishing "unsubstantiated information".
A warrant of arrest is out for its editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown for activities detrimental to Parliamentary democracy.
