Petaling Jaya Old Town in need of clean-up

ALTHOUGH Petaling Jaya Old Town is only a short distance from Petaling Jaya New Town, one can really see the difference in the attention given by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).
New Town is indeed very clean and we see many workers sweeping the whole area daily.
This is probably because the MBPJ headquarters is standing proudly in that vicinity.
However, it is sad to note that Old Town has been neglected by the MBPJ.
The area near 99 Speedmart in Old Town is so filthy with rubbish around its building and in front of its shop.We see plastic papers, food boxes, papers, tissues and sometimes animal carcasses on the road.
There are many clogged drains in Old Town, especially the drains along Jalan Othman.
The commercial area along Jalan Othman is also filthy.
MBPJ has not attended to the loads of rubbish on the road and in the box plants.
Signboards are broken and some parts of the concrete for the box plants are damaged.
Also the traders in Old Town do not sweep their rubbish that is thrown on the pavement.
They place their goods on the pavement preventing the public from walking.
There are many intoxicated men sitting in front of the McDonalds.
They litter the whole place under the trees and sleep around the pavements in the area.
All these really brings down the image of Old Town among the public and among tourists who come to the area.
MBPJ should plant some trees in Old Town as it lacks greenery.
Walking along the streets in the afternoon under the scorching sun can be really terrible.
Planting some trees along the main roads will definitely reduce the heat.
There is no point making a new road leading towards the Old Town or building a bigger bus station, instead MBPJ should clean up the area of rubbish and unwanted occupants.
I hope MBPJ will take steps to improve the image of Old Town and make it a cleaner and public-friendly place.
