A TOTAL of 487 policemen from Penang, including state police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Wira Ayub Yaakob, received commendation certificates in conjunction with the Police Excellent Service Awards 2010.
Besides the letters, each of them also received RM1,000 as appreciation for their effort in combating crime in the state.
DCP Ayub said the awards showed that the top leadership in the police force recognised their efforts and contribution in reducing the crime rate in the state.
“Therefore, all of us in the force should be well-motivated, productive and ever-ready to assist those who need the protective arm of the law. We must carry our duty with integrity and give the best to the community,” he said in his speech during the ceremony at the state police headquarters.
The award was the icing on the cake for DCP Ayub who had just recently received commendation awards from the Home Ministry for community policing and incorporating the umbrella beats.
Earlier in his speech, DCP Ayub said Penang police had achieved several successes, including the bust of major drug processing syndicates.
“We have seized drugs worth almost RM7.5mil in the market and made 14 arrests.
“However, all this would not have been achieved if not for public tip-off and assistance rendered by our counterparts in Bukit Aman,” he said.
DCP Ayub also said Penang police have collected RM28.8mil in traffic summonses for the first 10 months of this year, compared to RM25.8mil collected last year.
“We have intensified our operations and we will do everything to ensure Penang is a safe place for all,” he said.
