A new home for family

What say you on the issue below?

GONE are the sleepless nights spent worrying about their leaky roof or if their termite infested wooden walls will collapse any time.

The Toh family can now smile widely after moving into a new home, about 500m from their dilapidated old house in Kampung Lalang, Sitiawan.

Painter Toh Sew Hua, 51, said the new house was built from scratch on a 0.20ha land belonging to his late mother.

A place to call home: The celebration dinner took place in front of Toh’s new brick house in Kampung Lalang, Sitiawan.

“Lumut MP Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha made it all possible.

“He helped us obtain a RM33,000 grant from the Rural and Regional Development Ministry about six months ago,” Toh said.

He said their old house, which they had been living in for over 30 years, was beyond repair.

“We spent a lot of money repairing the leaky roof.

“The problem could not be resolved no matter how many times we tried to repair it,” he said.

Toh added that with an irregular income from him and his wife, a vegetable harvester, and four children to feed, they could not afford to build a new house.

“We would not be living in our new house if not for Kong’s help.

Thank you feast: Kampung Lalang villagers and Toh’s relatives serving dinner to guests.

“Instead of having to come up with the entire construction fees, we only spent RM7,000 to make some minor adjustments here and there as well as purchase a few pieces of furniture,” he added.

On Dec 2, residents at the village had threw a simple dinner for the family to celebrate their moving into their new three-room house.

Of course, the dinner would not have been complete without Kong.
