THE organisers are expecting a bigger turnout for the Mizuno Wave Run at the Universiti Putra Stadium in Serdang on Jan 15 next year.

The 10km event is organised by World of Sports, the distributors of Mizuno brand in Malaysia. W.O.S World of Sports sales and marketing manager Glenny J. Da Costa said they expected about 5,000 participants to line up at the starting point for the event.

“Next year’s event is the seventh in the series. We had about 900 participants when it was initiated in 2005. It was held at Padang Merbok. Two years ago, due to increasing number of participants, we teamed up with UPM to stage the run.

“Last year we had targetted about 4,000 participants. But almost 4,400 took part in the run. This year we are expecting about 5,000 participants,’’ said Glenny after a sponsorship presentation in Kuala Lumpur recently.

Full backing: The sponsors get together to show their support for the Mizuno Wave Run.

The Mizuno Wave Run has six categories — men’s Open 13-39 years), men’s Veteran (40-50), men’s Senior veteran (50 and above), women’s Open (13-34), women’s Veteran (35-45) and women Senior Veteran (45 and above).

Mizuno is the title sponsor while World of Sports is the main sponsor. The co-sponsors are PowerBar, Suunto, Nestle Breakfast Cereal, Perskindol, Gatorade, Physiogel, UPM,Thorlo and BP Healthcare.

Prizes worth a total RM45,000, from sponsors, will be up for grabs among the top 10 finishers in each of the six categories.

The entry fee is RM60 for the public and RM50 for Pacesetters members. Upon registration, participants will receive a running vest worth RM59.90. All finishers will get a pewter medal.
