THE Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre’s (the Centre) kitchens — Chinese, Western, Cold, Pastry and Malay — have been certified halal by Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (Jakim).
The halal certification confirms that every item, ingredient, manufacturer, supplier, process and procedure at the Centre has been audited by Jakim and certified halal.
Based on the Malaysian Standards (MS1500:2009), the Centre has complied with all stringent procedures and detailed analysis related to the halal process and that Jakim has conducted a physical site inspection of its storage area, cold room, process plant and handling aspects during production and packaging, general hygiene, quality control and assurance practices.
According to Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre general manager Datuk Peter Brokenshire, as a venue provider offering world-class services to an international clientele, the Centre has always been cognisant of the importance of sourcing the food and produce for all its kitchens from halal-certified domestic and international suppliers.
“We are therefore proud to receive halal certification for all our kitchens and we are committed to setting the example by complying with, and where possible exceeding, relevant Malaysian food safety legislation and other related requirements as set by Jakim and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur.”
The Centre’s halal certification process took approximately eight months.
During that period, the Centre was required to set-up an in-house halal committee to constantly review its kitchen processes and procedures to ensure all regulations are complied with, at all times.
