A COMPUTER sales executive is hoping to be reunited with his Vietnamese wife who has been barred from entering Malaysia.
Ling Yee Kang, 28, said his wife Huynh Thi Thu Thao, 26, left the country in April to visit her ailing mother in Vietnam.
He said they got married on March 4 and obtained a three-year visa on March 11 from the Immigration Department which allowed Huynh Thi multiple entries into Malaysia.
However, the problem started when Huynh Thi had to return to Vietnam on April 28 to look after her mother who was suffering from a slipped disc and knee cap problem.
When Huynh Thi tried to return to Malaysia on Oct 15, she was shocked when she was told that she was barred and had to return to Vietnam immediately.
“I was with her at the Immigration Office at the low-cost carrier terminal) in Sepang when she was told she was barred, but no reason was given to us,” said Ling, who had befriended his wife via the Internet last year.
He said that after sending Huynh Thi back to Vietnam the same day, he filed an appeal with the Immigration Department, attaching his marriage certificate and other relevant documents on Oct 19.
Ling said he received a reply from the department dated Nov 1 rejecting his appeal.
“I’m really disappointed that my wife was refused entry despite having a valid visa. She was supposed to have celebrated her birthday on Oct 22 with me.
“I hope the matter will be resolved and she will be able to celebrate Chinese New Year with me next month,” he said at a press conference called by Datuk Keramat assemblyman Jagdeep Singh Deo after the latter presented school uniform vouchers for schoolchildren in front of Masjid Acheh Kebun Lama on Langkawi Road yesterday.
Jagdeep Singh said he would write to the department to seek clarification as there was no reason given by the department in its reply to Ling as to why his wife was blacklisted and barred from entering the country.
“If she was blacklisted, the department shouldn’t have issued her the visa in the first place,” he said.
