MERCEDES-Benz celebrated its 125th anniversary with glitz and glamour when it hosted an evening of couture fashion and a sepcial gourmet dining experience for its clients at Hilton Kuala Lumpur recently.
It was also an opportunity for the luxury car manufacturer to announce its international collaboration with Stylo International for the World Fashion Series.
“We are truly delighted about this venture as there is a strong affiliation between fashion and the automotive industry.
“In fashion, there is a quick change in trends for textiles, colours and design.
“It is the same for the automotive industry,” said Mercedes-Benz president and chief executive officer Roland S. Folger.
The evening kicked off with a video presentation of Mercedes-Benz’s founder and creator followed by an overview of classic and latest models in the market.
This was followed by a presentation of Stylo’s past shows in Kuala Lumpur, London and Mumbai.
About 400 guests were feted to a sumptuous dinner prepared by Hilton KL’s chefs.
Guests were also treated to cucumber soup prepared by Mercedes-Benz vice-president Kai Schlickum, who loves cooking.
With the theme “The Seven Deadly Sins: Recycling is the new Black”, Stylo featured a fashion show with models dressed in intricately-designed outfits made of carton boxes, magazines, tin cans, plastic, newspapers, biodegradable fabrics and vintage clothing.
“The Seven Deadly Sins: Recycling is the new Black” was first introduced at the KL Stylo Fashion Grand Prix in 2010.
Even Stylo’s president and chief executive officer Datuk Nancy Yeoh made a fabulous appearance in an outfit created by Malaysia’s renowned designer Bill Keith using newspapers and magazines.
Yeoh said the theme was chosen from the myriad of human emotions — greed, pride, lust, sloth, envy, gluttony and wrath, which had contributed to the deterioration of mankind and Mother Nature.
In October, Stylo had joined forces with Mercedes-Benz India in Mumbai and showcased its second instalment of the series when India hosted its first ever Formula 1 race.
Under the World Fashion Series, Stylo will create a platform for young Malaysian talents to be showcased in international fashion capitals.
Mercedes-Benz Stylo Emerging Designer of 2011, Lorenzo Peh also made an appearance at the finale of the fashion show.
Through the Mercedes-Benz Stylo Model of the Year programme, which will kick off in January next year, the companies will search for new faces for the upcoming Stylo Fashion Grand Prix scheduled for March 2012.
The competition, open to all Malaysians, will see the winners taking to the international runways.
“We are honoured and at the same time deeply humbled by Mercedes-Benz’s support and belief. We look forward to this global journey with them for the benefit of our Malaysian fashion industry,” Yeoh said.
Guests present at the event included Tesco Stores Malaysia advisory board chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Abid, Tomei group executive director Ng Yih Chen, A Cut Above chief creative director Winnie Loo and Star Publications (M) Bhd executive director and group chief editor Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai and wife Datin Seri Florence Wong.
