PORT KLANG: Malaysia continues to remain a strategic naval partner for Pakistan in terms of training, human resources development and exercises in this region.
Visiting Pakistani Navy frigate PNS Zulfiquar commander Captain Zahid Ilyas said the relationship between both countries was so close that his country made Malaysia one of its regular stops for its vessels.
"This is no different for the newly-acquired Zulfiquar which was built in China and is on its voyage home.
"We view Malaysia as an important destination and a defence partner, not only in counter piracy and terrorism, but also in maritime assistance," he said on board Zulfiquar at the South Port here, on Thursday.
Zahid added Zulfiquar had earlier made a stop in Bandung to participate in the Indonesian Navy's fleet review along with 24 warships of other countries, including Malaysia.
"We will proceed to Colombo in Sri Lanka before heading home."
Zahid said Zulfiquar was one of four guided-missile frigates built at Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard in Shanghai, China.
Zulfiquar, which means sword in English, was handed over to the Pakistani Navy on July 30.
