Treasure hunt on foot

IN A unique effort to encourage urban Malaysians to walk instead of drive, Menara Hap Seng opened its Kuala Lumpur Walk Hunt 2009 (KL Walk Hunt) for registration recently.

This treasure-hunt-on-foot will be the culmination of a two-month long environmental-awareness campaign by the office building.

Deputy Natural Resources and Environment Minister Tan Sri Joseph Kurup launched the event recently.

Hap Seng Land Sdn Bhd property division chief executive Paul Ng Kee Seng said the interest shown in the event had been encouraging.

“We are confident that this is an ideal platform to communicate a positive environmental message in a fun manner,” he said.

Ng said the organisers would try to accommodate as many teams as possible.

The hunt will take place on Oct 3 and registration is open to all Malaysians. Each team must comprise two to four people and the cost per entry is RM150 per team.

Participating teams will be traversing major KL routes and landmarks to answer puzzles related to the environment.

“We hope to have many winners on that day. More importantly, it is our hope that participants will discover that KL city centre has many amenities and facilities within walking distance, making driving unnecessary,” Ng said.

The hunt is part of Menara Hap Seng’s Green Lifestyle @ the Podium, which is endorsed by the ministry as well as the Malaysian Environmental NGO Association (MENGO).

The two-month campaign, which kicked off in August, aimed to promote a greener lifestyle among tenants of the building and the surrounding community.

In addition, Menara Hap Seng’s F&B tenants at the Podium, the building’s three-level lifestyle and retail block, are also lending their support through the Fashionably Green promotion.
