BUBUR lambuk, a porridge traditionally served during Ramadan, was distributed free by students from Universiti Putra Malaysia’s (UPM) Modern Language and Communication Faculty to their fellow students and residents just before Hari Raya.
More than 2,000 containers of porridge were distributed by local celebrities Ifa Raziah and Khairil Azwan Mohd Rashid of Sinar FM to every one who went to the Latar Siswa area, where Pak Hassan, of Kampung Baru, had been cooking the porridge in five huge pots for nearly five hours.
The students then packed the porridge into containers for distribution.
Also present at the event were UPM vice-chancellor Associate Professor Dr Azali Muhamed and Modern Language and Communications Faculty dean Associate Professor Dr Che Ibrahim Salleh.
The gotong-royong Bubur Lambuk “Pak Hassan Kampung Baru” campaign was a first for the students, and with the sponsorship they had received, they even invited 50 children from Rumah Anak Yatim Nur Hikmah in Kajang to break fast with them.
Each child was given RM30 as duit raya.
Nasyid group Nahwan Nur entertained the guests during the breaking of fast.
“We are thankful to all who sponsored the event.
“Because of their gesture, the students were able to share the joy of breaking fast with the children from the home,’’ said Dr Che Ibrahim Salleh.
He hoped that the event would be held yearly and not be limited to the faculty level.
