Reaching out to the refugees

THE Xim Phou Moon Welfare Society Malaysia fulfilled its promise of presenting aid to 999 refugee families at Sri Lanka.

Some 26 society members, led by the founder and president Datuk Tan Leong Hoo, visited the Vavuniya Camp in the country’s northern region and gave goodie bags to the poor.

The bags, valued at US$21 (about RM70) each, consisted of medicines, milk powder, rice and other food items.

Rev Lakshapana Chandawimala and Rev Kahalle Gnaninda Thero were also present to witness the handover.

Tan urged the public to lend a hand to the refugees.

“After 30 years, the country’s civil war has finally ended.

“There are about 300,000 refugees living in the camps and so, a large amount of food items is needed,” he said.
