KUALA LUMPUR: The beer drinking incident and the protest over the relocation of a temple had put Malaysia on the international arena for the wrong reasons.
Malaysian Associated Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Datuk K. K. Eswaran, who said this claimed that it was sad that international newspapers and press agencies had carried this reports to the global masses despite millions being spent to paint a harmonious picture of racial unity in Malaysia.
“The actions of a small group of selfish individuals who orchestrated the protest has brought shame to their fellow Muslim brothers and sisters,” he said in a statement.
Eswaran was commenting on the controversial case of Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno, a part-time model who had been sentenced to six lashes of the cane for drinking beer in a Kuantan Hotel and the demonstration by a group who carried a cow head to protest against the relocation of a temple in Shah Alam.
