Legal tips for Puchong residents

What say you on the issue below?

A FREE Legal Aid Clinic was held for residents and house owners in JKP Zone 9 in Puchong recently.

The event, initiated by Subang Jaya municipal councillor Chang Kim Loong, was made possible by lawyers and trained cousellors from the All Women’s Action Society (Awam) and the National House Buyers Association (HBA).

Well-versed in syariah laws, family laws and housing and civil laws, they served the community on a pro bono basis at the community hall in Taman Sri Puchong.

Residents, owners and members of joint management bodies and residents associations of Taman Mutiara Puchong, Taman Sri Puchong, Lake Edge and Taman Perindustrian Puchong grabbed the opportunity to raise various legal issues.

Among the topics discussed were estate distribution matters, matrimonial issues, housing, transfer of property, wills and testaments, joint management and maintenance of stratified properties, gated and guarded communities, labour cases, bankruptcy and run-of-the-mill civil court cases.

“The event was to extend free legal consultative services to the residents of JKP Zone 9 with the later intention to expand the free outreach programme to other zones in MPSJ,” Chang, who is the HBA secretary-general said.

He added that the objectives were to help the residents who had legal problems but did not know where to seek help.

It was also to educate the residents about their rights.

“There are people who shy away from legal issues because the perception is such that it costs money to speak to lawyers,” he said.

He added that the event was in line with their aspiration to bond with the people and disseminate information for the people’s wellbeing.
