Food and fun fair draw the crowd

What say you on the issue below?

AFTER several days of prolonged downcast skies, the weather held up on Saturday, netting more than RM30,000 for the Desa Amal Jireh Charity Food and Fun Fair.

The event took place on the sprawling grounds of the charity village in Broga, near Semenyih, Selangor. The food and fun fair was made possible through the effort of full-time staff, the centre’s residents and volunteers from here and abroad, including international students.

The home offers hope for orphans, poor or disabled children and youths.

The elderly who are destitute are also housed here. Before shifting to its own premises comprising five blocks in Broga, the home operated from several rented houses in Kajang.

Visitors to the fair started arriving early for the event held from 9am to 4pm. By noon, the main hall, canteen and common areas, where many attractions awaited, were abuzz with activity.

The hall was converted into a clothes, knick-knacks and food bazaar of sorts.

The second-hand clothes were a bargain and many outfits flew off the racks within minutes after shoppers spotted worthy buys. The rojak and popiah stall was popular.

Over at the canteen, hot thosai and capati were quickly whipped up as visitors placed orders.

Chee cheong fun, fried noodles, fresh soya bean and teh tarik were also available.

A live band entertained as people browsed for second-hand books, toys, Christmas decorations and furniture.

The games stalls with prizes up for grabs were a hit with children and youths who tried their hand at literally everything.
