THE inaugural National Drawing Competition organised by Popular Book Co (M) Sdn Bhd in conjunction with its 85th anniversary was a great success.

The prize-giving ceremony was held at The Summit Subang USJ recently.

The contest was held at venues with Popular outlets throught Malaysia except Perlis from July to November.

More than 1,000 people took part in the event, organised in conjunction with Popular’s 85th anniversary celebration this year.

The theme “Lets Celebrate”, allowed participants to draw and colour their favourite celebration moment comprising birthdays, Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Deepavali or Christmas.

Winners all: The winners with their prizes.

The objective is to promote multi-racial interaction among Malaysians.

The competition started with the state level and was divided into Category A (10 to 12 years old) and Category B (13 to 15 years old).

First, second and third prize winners received Popular gift vouchers or hampers worth RM500, RM300 and RM200 each respectively.

The top three winners of each category from each state qualified for the national level where winners received Popular gift vouchers worth RM1,000, RM600 and RM300 each respectively.

The criteria was that the drawings must capture the spirit of the celebration of their favourite occasion.

Professionals in the creative industry, John Ho and two experienced art teachers, Amy Loo and Goh Ah Peng were the judges.

Prizes were presented by operation manager of Popular Malaysia Siew Sheue Liang.

“The quality of the entries exceeded our expectations.

“And we are also pleased with the support from our customers,” he said.
