CHENNAI: Two Indian nationals were caught attempting to smuggle seven kilogrammes of ketamine to Malaysia in an electric rice cooker.
Chennai police found the crystal-like drug concealed at the bottom of the rice cooker that one of the suspects was carrying in a box while on a motorcycle in the Mannadi area.
The suspects, aged 22 and 26, one of whom is a graduate in commerce, are being held under remand to facilitate investigations into international ketamine trafficking.
Asst Commissioner of Police (Chennai Crime Branch) D. Kandasamy said the street value of the drug was about RM100,000.
"Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed the ketamine came from Bangalore and they were sending the drug to Hyderabad before it was to be smuggled to Malaysia," he told Bernama Tuesday.
Kandasamy said the suspects were previously involved in peddling pirated CDs.
