Buka puasa food for the needy

KOTA BARU: The needy in and around the state capital along with Muslim musafir (travellers) need not worry about finding a place to break their fast during Ramadan.

The state government has set up more than 10 air-conditioned tents outside the Sultan Mohammad IV Stadium providing free food and drinks.

Local Government, Tourism and Culture committee chairman Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said the annual project was one of several organised by the state government during the fasting month.

Others include Terawih prayers and Quran recitals.

"As in previous years, the state decided to organise free buka puasa to help the needy as well as musafir who cannot reach home in time for breaking fast.

"All the funds used for the project were donated by individuals and traders, mainly those operating at the nearby Ramadan Bazaar."

Takiyuddin said the Ramadan programmes in Kelantan always received good response.

"Close to 200 people a day break their fast in the tents and as the month progresses, this number grows with people living outside the city joining in."

The majority of the people interviewed by the New Straits Times thanked the state government for its initiative, saying the food was almost the same as that sold at the nearby Ramadan Bazaar.

"The place is comfortable, and the food is not only delicious but there is a good variety," said the visitors.
