Bid to nab intruder goes awry

What say you on the issue below?

KUALA LUMPUR: The son of veteran comedian Norlia Ghani fell to his death when he tried to catch an intruder at Jalan Gurney in Sentul.

Edi Rizal Ramli, 23, (pic) was in his fourth floor unit of the Murni Titi-wangsa apartments when he heard a noise from a friend’s unit on the seventh floor.

Being suspicious as he knew that his friend was out, he saw a man trying to prise open the balcony grille gate.

Despite Edi’s warnings to stop, the intruder continued to break open the grille.

Edi then climbed up the water pipe leading to the unit to confront the intruder but slipped and fell to his death.

His mother Norlia and other family members found Edi’s body sprawled on the road below.

The intruder escaped unnoticed.

Confirming the 12.30pm incident, city deputy CID chief Asst Comm Khairi Ahrasa said police learnt from a neighbour that the intruder was earlier seen trying to break into an eighth floor unit.

“We believe the same burglar was spotted by Edi.”

This is the second incident where an attempt by the public to arrest a criminal went awry.

Last Saturday, an American engineer was shot in the chest when he went to the aid of a 70-year-old woman who was struggling with a snatch thief at Plaza Mount Kiara.

The 42-year-old engineer is warded at the Intensive Care Unit of the University Malaya Medical Centre.

He is reported to be in stable condition.
