Tried & Tested: Everyday glamour

GUCCI has released the Eau de Toilette version of the Premiere Eau de Parfum from 2012, presenting a lighter, more delicate version of the original scent.
The Premiere line was inspired by the Gucci Premiere couture collection that made its debut at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival. Salma Hayek and Naomi Watts wore the luxurious evening gowns from the collection, and the Premiere EDP was meant to capture that glamourous appeal.
According to the press release, this new Premiere variant is a “fresh, sparkling fragrance that combines presence and sensual femininity to endow the wearer with an unfading radiance.”
The freshness comes from its floral and citrus top notes, particularly orange blossom. This eventually gives way to the scent of white flowers such as freesia, jasmine and soft Bulgarian rose. And as the perfume dries, leather, patchouli and musky notes become apparent.
The packaging bears hallmarks of the EDP. It has a gold charm around the neck, entwined with Gucci’s iconic horsebit, while the cap is stamped with the signature Gucci Premiere.
But the colour is more muted in line with the EDT’s more understated concept. The clear glass bottle allows you to see exactly how much perfume you have left.
ELEGANT EFFERVESCENCE
Actress Blake Lively, who is currently expecting her first child with husband Ryan Reynolds, is reprising her role as the face of Premiere.
“While Gucci Premiere represents a red carpet moment or a night on the town, the Eau de Toilette version is softer,” she says. “It has all the great presence of the original, but dialled down and freshened up. You can really wear it as your everyday fragrance.”
I agree with Blake. The scent after the initial spritz hits you hard but it mellows quite nicely. It doesn’t feel obtrusive to the senses because it develops into a soft, elegant scent that envelops you through the day.
Even though it is marketed as a day perfume, it still works as an evening or special event perfume. But that’s probably my personal opinion because I don’t favour strong and heady scents.
The Gucci Premiere EDT is available in 30ml (RM240), 50ml (RM300) and 75ml (RM420).
