190 kids get their wish

KUALA LUMPUR: CHILDREN from various homes got their hearts’ desires at the second Rainbow of Life Forces (Rolf) Sports Day 2014 and The 6th Gold Ribbon Campaign — Grant-a-Wish Gift Handover Ceremony at Stadium Inspen in Kajang.
It was a day packed with non-stop fun for the children from five Klang Valley homes — Rumah Nur Hikmah, Rainbow Home, Rumah Shalom, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Yesuvin Mahligai and Rumah Kasih Nurul Hasanah. The event was organised by Rolf, an ongoing charity initiative by concert organiser CreatiVision Bhd.
CreatiVision Bhd managing director and Rolf founder Adelyn Lim said that Rolf was launched in 2007 to help the underprivileged in society.
“We were helping less fortunate kids and other charities in places like Dehradun, India, for 12 years before setting up Rolf.
“Today we have seven different colourful ‘ribbons’ and each represent a charity initiative to ease the plight of the less fortunate in Malaysia, India, Indonesia and other countries.
“The blue ribbon represents our cancer campaign. We started helping poor parents who are in need of financial aid to pay for their kid’s medical bills for undergoing cancer treatment in 2007.
“In 2008, we added the orange ribbon campaign — a social responsibility programme for youth. We work regularly with university students in Malaysia to do community work.
“We teach students from INTI International University & Colleges, Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman,Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Kuala Lumpur, HELP University and UCSI University to carry out their own charity fundraising and community projects.
“About 170 student volunteers aged between 18 and 21 are with us today to help the team to carry out this event,” she said.
“Today marks our 6th Gold Ribbon Campaign — Grant-a-Wish Gift Handover. Under the gold ribbon campaign, we try our best to fulfil the wishes and dreams of less fortunate kids in our community.
“From Sept 1 to Oct 15, caretakers of the five homes submitted a list of wishes. Though there are donors who give things like provisions to these homes, not many strive to fulfil the children’s wishes.
“The kids wanted things such as new Barbie dolls, footballs, PlayStation sets, keyboard, football jerseys and new clothes.
“We are grateful to the 500 donors who sponsored presents. The gift presentation ceremony is being held in conjunction with Universal Children’s Day on Nov 20.
“The donors are from Malaysia, Singapore and the United States. Today, over a hundred of these donors are here to present the gifts to the kids. The 190 kids who are taking part in the sports day and receiving gifts are aged between 2 and 19 years,” she said.
“Under our green ribbon campaign, we try to organise one fun trip to places such as Taman Pertanian and Penang Hill.
At the event, the children played games and the older kids got a chance to play futsal with Celebrities Sports Club Singapore members such as Zheng Ge Ping, Randall Tan,  Devarajan, Zheng Rong Ming, Cansen Goh and Zhu Yong Qin.
