13-year-old students win green car design contest

KUALA LUMPUR: Two Year Nine students of Regent International School won the Destination Zero Carbon Challenge overall award organised by the National University of Singapore, recently.
Christopher Lim Xian Da and Logendra Moorthy, both 13, from the Sungai Petani campus, beat 75 teams from India, Singapore and Malaysia.
The duo were judged the best in car styling and design and in oral presentation, and were third for the video-clip presentation for hydrogen fuel cell innovation.
They won S$500 (about RM1,670) and trophies for their effort.
“It was hugely rewarding to see our hard work pay off. My mum was very supportive as she had been visiting the competition’s website to regularly update me and Logendra about the developments,” said Lim.
He said the competition had made him interested in a career as a car designer and the success had fuelled his interest even further.
“The experience was invaluable as we learned so much,” said Logendra.
“We were always advised by our parents to explore things that we are interested in and to always give the best. My father had given us a lot of information about the physics of the car  which helped.”
