MAJOR road closures will be taking place on two Sundays – on Sept 6 and 13, totalling 18 hours – along the Sprint Highway at KM3.6.
The stretch of the highway to be closed is from Phileo Damansara to Tropicana.
The move is to facilitate the construction of a link bridge for the Phileo Damansara MRT Station entrance.
Measuring 78.6m, the bridge crosses Jalan 16/11 and the Sprint Highway.
“We need to close the entire road to ensure the safety of road users as we will be bringing in three cranes,” said MMC-Gamuda KVMRT Sdn Bhd deputy construction director Adil Putra Ahmad.
During the closure, motorists are advised to plan their journey and use alternative routes to get to their destination.
Three main alternative routes have been identified.
The first will see traffic from Bangsar being diverted to Jalan Dato Abu Bakar.
The second diversion will see traffic from Taman Tun Dr Ismail diverted to Jalan Damansara (in front of Menara Glomac) to merge with Sprint and diverted again to Jalan 17/21.
Lastly, traffic coming from the direction of the Damansara toll will also be diverted to Jalan 17/21.
The U-turn from Jalan 16/11 will also be blocked and traffic will be diverted to Jalan 17/21, the Damansara-Puchong Highway and New Klang Valley Expressway.
Proper signage will be put up at strategic locations to help guide motorists from the start to the end of the road block.
“This total closure is necessary but we are doing it on a Sunday to help minimise the impact on road users,” said MRT Corp director of operations and assets management division, Mahmood Abdul Razak
He said the company would inform the public if the closure was to be extended.
“We are confident this project will be completed within 18 hours. This project required very careful planning and every step including the safety aspects will be followed according to procedure,” Mahmood said.
MRT will be working with the police and Petaling Jaya City Council, who will be helping them monitor traffic during the closure.
Traffic controllers will also be on site to assist motorists in that period.
