SEPANG: It’s final.
National football coach Dollah Salleh has quit.
The former international confirmed that he has resigned as head coach of the national team.
“I take full responsibility for what has happened. The fans will not accept this result. My decision is final,” said Dollah upon arrival with the team at the KLIA in Sepang on Friday.
Malaysia hit a new all-time low in their football history when the national team were thrashed 10-0 by United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the 2018 World Cup qualifying second round Asian Zone Group A match.
The result at the Mohamed Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Thursday was the worst result since going down to New Zealand 8-2 in an international match played in Kuala Lumpur almost 50 years ago.
“I have informed the FA of Malaysia (FAM) of my decision. In fact, I made the decision immediately after the defeat in Abu Dhabi. Any coach would not accept this result. I don’t blame anyone else,” said Dollah.
Malaysia will play another tough customer Saudi Arabia next at the Shah Alam Stadium on Tuesday in the same qualifier.
