KUALA TERENGGANU: Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai (pix) has hopes that further analysis on the flaperon found on Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean can aid investigators looking for the rest of Flight MH370’s wreckage.
The Transport Minister urged experts to continue analysing the aircraft part to see if more information could be gleaned from it, such as how long it has been in the sea or how it ended up on the remote island.
“Such information will assist the Search Strategy Working Group that is conducting the search.
“This will help them move forward,” he told reporters after opening the 2015 Terengganu MCA Convention yesterday.
French analysts said on Friday that the flaperon came from MH370, confirming the finding of a team from MAS which identified it from MAS technical records about a month ago.
Liow thanked the French authorities for the confirmation.
This verification would be very difficult for the families and friends of those on board MH370, he said, adding that it was a trying time for these people.
“No words can express the pain and sorrow you are going through. The nation is with you,” he said.
He gave them his assurance that the Government, along with China and Australia, will continue the search for MH370.
Liow also said that Malaysia, in its time of need, was blessed with tremendous support from other nations, including China, Australia, the United States, France and Britain.
It was committed to working with its counterparts and the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s Annex 13 Safety Investigation Team for MH370, he said.
The Boeing 777 jetliner with 239 onboard was flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8, 2014, when it disappeared.
