PETALING JAYA: Hong Kong police have arrested Malaysian singer Gary Chaw for fighting in the streets. He faces a possible jail term of up to a year if convicted.

On Sept 23, Chaw was captured on video in a street brawl in the special administrative region of China with Hong Kong singer Justin Lo.

Fight sequence: A series of pictures showing Chaw fighting with Lo in the streets of Hong Kong on Sept 23. Chaw kicking into the taxi where Lo was seated; Chaw in a grip with Lo; and Lo covering himself in pain.

The video clip showed Chaw attacking Lo and, at one point, attempting to hit him with a signboard.

After the incident was highlighted by the media, Chaw returned to Malaysia for a break and kept a low profile, according to a report in Daily Chilli , The Star’s new online portal.

On Friday, he evaded the media and arrived in Hong Kong to assist in investigations into the criminal case.

As requested by police, Chaw went to the police central division later in the day and was arrested.

Hong Kong media reported that Chaw was released on bail pending further investigations but has to report to the police early next month.

He is being investigated for common assault, which carries a jail term of up to a year.

Chaw returned to Malaysia after posting bail.

A Hong Kong police spokesman confirmed that a 30-year-old man with the surname Chaw was arrested in connection with the fight.

He said they recorded Lo’s statement on Wednesday.
