MPs: Samy Vellu inciting racial tensions

PETALING JAYA: Two PKR MPs lodged a police report against MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu for allegedly trying to incite racial tensions.

Kapar MP S. Manikavasagam and Kelana Jaya MP Loh Gwo Burne lodged the report at the Kelana Jaya police station here yesterday.

Loh said Samy Vellu’s statements regarding the “so-called Hindu temple” in Glenmarie to two online portals were untrue.

Loh said the structure in Section U1, Shah Alam, which was torn down by the Shah Alam City Council recently was not a temple but an altar frequented by gambling punters.

Manikavasagam said they had verified with the Selangor government and that it gave no order to demolish any temple.

He added that under the state’s policy, any religious structure could only be demolished with the approval of exco members Dr Xavier Jeyakumar, Ronnie Liu and Teresa Kok.

Manikavasagam said he visited the “temple” a day after it was demolished last week and met caretaker Muniandy, who performed small-scale healing practices.

“There was no temple or any structure except a framed picture of (Hindu deity) Madurai Veeran which the caretaker had put there.

“The man just wanted to be left alone and would find a place to move to by December,” said Manikavasagam.

The two MPs urged police to investigate and take action against Samy Vellu if he had maliciously tried to incite racial sentiments.
