New season starts for ice hockey tournament

What say you on the issue below?

IT IS an exciting time for local ice hockey players with the start of the Malaysia Ice Hockey Federation (MIHF) President’s Cup hockey league at the Sunway Pyramid.

MIHF secretary Susan Loh, who launched the start of the new season recently with MIHF deputy president Haniff Mahmood, said she was happy to see more locals showing interest in the game as the sport was not a popular one in the country.

“It is good to see that many are enquiring and taking up lessons in ice hockey, Many of them had also decided to take up the sport seriously after watching our local boys winning the MIHF tournament early this month,” said Loh.

Let’s see who gets it: Players from the Metro Stars team and Dexion Wildcubs chasing after the puck during the division’s first game of the new season. Metro Stars later won 4-3.

She added that the new season had more local participation with a new team but they had also lost an expatriate team as the foreigners had to return to their respective countries.

The new local team, Raptors would be in the Division two of the league together with the Sabers, Warriors and Vipers.

Expatriate teams KL Tigers and KL Cobras together with local boys Dexion Wildcats and Tenaga completes Division One.

After the launch Division three teams Dexion Wildcubs went up against Metro Stars where the latter won 4-3 while Warriors beat Raptors 8-1 in the Division two section.

Loh said the league would also serve as a base for them to select players for the upcoming IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia in Taiwan next year.
