Man electrocuted while collecting scrap metal in Lahad Datu




KOTA KINABALU: A 30-year-old man was electrocuted while collecting scrap metal at a squatter settlement the east coast Lahad Datu district.
Sabah Fire and Rescue Services Department spokesman Affendy Ramin said the man was believed to have touched a live wire that was illegally connected during the 2pm incident on Saturday.
He said firemen only managed to retrieve the man’s body after Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) officials cut power supply at the Kampung Bakau area.
Affendy said the firemen received the distress call at 2.05pm and rushed a fire engine and nine personnel there.
On July 20, firemen Apolos Jeremos was electrocuted and killed when he and a team of colleagues were putting out a bushfire near Taman Kenari, about 15kms from Sandakan town.
Apolos died after he touched an electricity cable that was illegally connected to a nearby squatter colony.
