20 NGOs lodge reports against Bersih

MALACCA: A large group of protesters from 20 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) held a 500m rally here before lodging police reports against the organisers of Bersih 4.0.
The group walked from Padang Nyiru to the Melaka Tengah police station as 80 police personnel stood by to prevent any untoward incidents.
Representatives of the NGOs lodged three police reports against the Bersih 4,0 organisers, several individuals who stomped on the images of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.
They also lodged reports against controversial blogger Alvin Tan who allegedly threatened to rape the daughter of a country’s leader.
Malacca Umno Youth chief Zali Md Yasin said the peaceful protest was to express anger against organisers of the Bersih 4.0 rally, claiming that it had led to more disharmony in the country.

Bersih 4.0 held on Aug 29 and 30 drew one of the largest crowd of protesters.
Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah also made brief appearances at the rally on both days.
Zali said the protestors should not have gone overboard by disrespecting leaders and stomping on their images.
“We also strongly condemn the blogger Tan who has ridiculed Muslims, Malays and other Malaysians by touching on sensitive religious issues,” he said.
It is learnt that several similar reports were made by others nationwide yesterday.
