A GROUP of giant-sized ‘germs’ turned heads recently when they invaded high-traffic areas throughout the Klang Valley.
They were seen in crowded shopping complex entrances, markets and busy LRT stations but not far behind them was a group of ‘germbusters’ in hot pursuit of the ‘germs’.
The antics of the ‘germs’ and ‘germbusters’ turned out to be part of a street campaign by Domex, Unilever’s inaugural toilet-cleaner range, to educate Malaysians on the unseen dangers of disease-causing germs which can be found in even the most visibly clean toilets.
Curious members of the public received flyers from ‘germbusters’ in shiny suits with gigantic Domex bottles strapped on for effect.
The flyers on little-known germ facts are intended to raise awareness levels among Malaysians on the dangers of germs that are lurking in toilets.
Unilever (Malaysia) Holdings Sdn Bhd homecare division brand manager Cindy Tan said the campaign focused on alerting consumers on germs and how wet toilets were a haven for germs to breed.
“We understand that the war against germs is not an easy one, especially when germs can bring a multitude of diseases and cause detrimental effects on your body.”
“Domex, with its key component of ultra thick bleach and its key ingredient of sodium hypochlorite, aims to kill all known germs upon contact,” said Tan.
She added that it was also highly effective at removing stains and getting rid of malodour and odour-causing bacteria.
Additionally, environmentally-conscious consumers will be glad to know that the ultra thick bleach quickly breaks down into salt and water.
“This prevents it from causing harm to the environment when discharged through the drainage system,” said Tan.
She said a toilet that appeared to be clean was not necessarily so.
“What might seem clean could be brimming with up to 189 different kinds of germs which are unseen to the naked eye,” she explained, adding that these germs could then multiply into a whole colony of disgusting creatures.
